We use a calendar constantly since we are a family that is always on the go. Joe constantly travel out of town so sometimes I can't keep track of his trips. I rely on the calendar to tell me when and where he'll be. The other thing that is a must for me is a large message area, that's why painting the door is so ideal due to the large surface area. I always find myself trying to find a post it to jot down things that I have to buy and most of the time, it is lost in my own mind until too late.
The thing I love about doing it on a door instead of the wall is that most walls in California are textured, making them not ideal for this purpose. The door is also a perfect size, at least for our purpose.

Lyz, you got me hooked... all I do anymore is search for mid-century items on craigslist.
ReplyDeleteHi! I found your blog through YHL. Love the blackboard door! I want to try it too now!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun project! I love a good calendar... and a black door :).
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful idea. Great execution! I'm sure you'll get a lot of new reader from YHL.
ReplyDeleteFound you through YHL... this is a very cool idea!
ReplyDeleteI also found you through YHL, and I am also a young bay area professional in my first year of marriage, living in our first home! I am sure your blog will be a place I get lots of ideas!
ReplyDeleteI also shimmied my way over from YHL and I just absolutely love your DIY calendar. I've always wanted to use chalk paint (have you seen Hudson's colored chalk paint??) but I haven't found the right project for it just yet.
ReplyDeleteNice idea! I'm fascinated by chalk paint. I might have to do something like this for our office. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw your project on YHL too! I love this idea. Was your door already flat or did you have to do some work? Our doors have some groves so I was contemplating how to work around that.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the lovely comments and thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDelete@Ashley: the door is thankfully flat, which was one of the reasons why we chose to do the project on the door as opposed to an entire wall of our home, since all of all walls are textured which will not work with these kinds of projects. I definitely recommend doing it on a flat surface! Not sure how you would work around other surfaces.
